Food Tour of Rome: Culinary Stroll

Food Tour of Rome: Culinary Stroll

Rome is known as a city of artistic and historical wonder, but there is more to Rome; her wonderful cuisine.  In this tour, we will explore the tastier side of Rome.   Lead by a local food and wine expert, we will begin our tour in the morning at one of Rome’s best cafés.  Here you will enjoy a coffee of your choice while we explain the history and secrets of good coffee making in Italy.  After our coffee break we’ll begin to eat, all the while exploring the food in cultural context.  We’ll try local pastries, visit a market and get to know the seasonal foods of the area and learn about the local cucina povera.  We’ll visit a local forno where bread has been made by the same family for decades and try their wonderful pizza bianca, along the way you’ll get to sample local food, pastries, olive oil and more.  We’ll stop in the Jewish Ghetto where we will get to know how a culture that has been a part of the Rome for hundreds of years has had tremendous influence on the cuisine of Rome today.  If artichokes are in season we will also get to sample carciofi alla giudia.   If not, you’ll still sample delicious fritti misti.   We will then stop in a local cheese shop to sample artisanal cheeses and taste both white and red wine.  At the end of our tour, we’ll head over to Trastevere and finish off with a wonderful gelato that has been made with extra care and fine ingredients.

We chose our locations based on relationships with providers knowing that they also believe in our mission of serving the best local, organic and seasonal foods made with the best ingredients.   We pride ourselves in making sure that we support local producers and farmers while making sure our guests experience the best in Roman food culture.  After our tour, we’ll be happy to suggest a local trattoria for lunch.
